I like the fact that the maps are completely offline, thus require no internet connection to work -- this makes them much faster to pan and zoom than any online map like the ones from Apple or Google. This is also a huge advantage in a disaster situation when the network is clogged or down. The detail is higher than what you get in a Garmin or TomTom, and I like the UI. Only downside is that its hundreds of megs per city, but that is an upside as well as it highlights how much bandwidth you are saving, and how detailed the maps are. This map is only LA central and does not include the Valley or the OC.

Search will not find a numerical address for you, but will find all occurrences for that street, and if you know the general area youre looking in it works great.

Some bad moments

This update is not compatiable with the GPS of Iphone 3G! Id rather use the previous version with GPS functioning correctly.

doesnt even allow you to put pins. update it? oerhaps then it might get a better score. thanks

I downloaded this app because I wanted a map of LA and its surrounding neighborhoods to use on my (offline) iPod Touch. It worked reasonably well; the zoom function expanded far enough to include the names of side streets, the map seemed fairly up-to-date, and the search function was, well, so-so. I had a BIG problem with the way the map was formatted, though. Theres no extra space bordering around the northwestern & southwestern edges of the city, so if you try to zoom in around Woodland Hills, Northridge or Malibu, youll find those parts of town unrepresented on the map. A big chunk of Glendale/Burbank is also invisible when you zoom in. Since these are areas I spend a lot of time driving around, the application did not serve my needs well. If you need a basic offline map of downtown and the neighborhoods to the southwest and southeast, then this app might be worth the dollar. I would personally prefer a zoomable map of ALL of Los Angeles.

Adequate, but thats it. Tried the "search function to find a street, no dice. Better off just going online.
